About RA Podar Mumbai

R.A. Podar College of Commerce & Economics, Mumbai has had a long history, which commenced with the freedom struggle of India. The visionaries of that time realized that they should start an institution which would inculcate the indigenous values and have the thrust of social and cultural value system that are typical to the grand heritage of our country.

In August 1940, the trust known as ‘Shikshana Prasaraka Mandali’, Pune, made an application to the Bombay University for permission to start a Commerce College. The Industrialist and Philanthropist and a visionary, Seth Ramdeoji Anandilal Podar was deeply interested in the cause of education. He wished to build an institution in the memory of his brother Ramniranjan Anandialal Podar who had died at a young age. At the cost of Rs.1,50,000/- he constructed the building that houses the college today, and gifted it to the S.P. Mandali on the 7th of February 1941.

The College shall accept application forms filled through Mumbai University Online Admission Portal. The step by step to apply for a course shall be as explained below:

Library of R. A. Podar College of Commerce & Economics

The Library of R. A. Podar College of Commerce & Economics Matunga, Mumbai-19 was established in 1941, the same year when the college came into being. The library is located on the second and third floors of the main building. Mr. P. K. Garde was the first librarian who served college library during 1942-1945. After retirement from the college, Mr Garde got opportunity to work as a librarian of Hammershield Section of the UNESCO Library. Mr. L.K.Gorey, Mr.B.V.Modgi, Mr.P.V.Ainapure and Mr .M. Ketkar, and Dr. V.V. Deshpande also served as librarians in this prestigious college in the subsequent years. The library which started with an initial collection of few thousand books has now grown up in the year 2020-21 to a rich collection of 75366 books and 2586 bound volumes of national and International periodicals. It also started subscribing to online journals and e-books.
